What is a Homestay?
Homestay is more than “full board”. International students are welcomed and treated as a member of the family. It offers students a safe and stable living experience that is both friendly and tolerant of cultural differences. Students not only benefit from the experience of living with Australians in an English speaking household where their normal daily needs are catered for, but also have the opportunity to establish a very worthwhile ongoing friendship with the Australian family. Our Host Families are chosen for their willingness to treat the visiting Student as a family member and readiness to experience a different culture.
It is a convenient, safe and economical temporary housing solution. Homestay is an especially attractive form of accommodation for stays that range from a few weeks to several months. The fee for Homestay includes a furnished bedroom, general living including three meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for full board and breakfast and dinner Monday to Friday and Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the weekend for half board, provision of facilities (eg. Towels, blankets, bed sheets, eating utensils), utilities (gas and electricity). It does not include phone calls and internet usage. Four (4) weeks minimum stay is recommended.
Students are responsible for the cost of their own phone calls and we recommend an international phone card be used to make international calls. Some homes allow Internet access, but some do not. We do not guarantee Internet availability in our homes. If as a guest you are allowed to access the Internet, please follow Homestay and host guidelines regarding usage.
Because this is someone's private home, you will be expected to abide by the same reasonable rules of behavior that family members follow. The Blue Arrow and the family set these rules. Please make certain that you understand these rules which you will receive in your welcome envelope, which you recieve upon arrival.
